Satellite CapabilitiesBT does not operate or own any satellites directly. However BT has access to all the major satellite consortia including Intelsat, Inmarsat, Panamsat, and Eutelsat.

We manage -

    more than 15 million circuit equivalents on International Submarine Cables from 20 site

    more than 60 large satellite antenna systems operating to more than 100 countries

    more than 2,400 small fixed Satellite terminals in more than 100 countries and territories

    Voice and Data services for more than 460 thousand direct customers for Inmarsat mobile services

    Television services on 60 channels for more than 250 million customers across Europe and Africa

    BT has two main Earth Station sites within the UK: -

    Madley - near Hereford
    Goonhilly - on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall

    There is also an operations team based in Colombo House which provides service management and maintenance to several important customers.

Each of the main and some of BT's other Earth Stations are manned within an Operational Control Area (OCA) 24 hours/day and are surrounded by security fences, which is monitored by camera 24 hours /day. All areas are controlled by passcard protected locks this covers equipment and operational areas.
