Madley

Madley Communications Centre near Hereford opened for business in 1978, when the first antenna was completed. Madley now has more than fifty satellite antennas in service offering coverage to the Indian and Atlantic Ocean Regions for international voice, fax data, IP, and video conferencing traffic and TV broadcasts.

TV transmissions are an important part of Madley's traffic with ad-hoc links quickly arranged to cover major world news stories.

There are currently 47 satellite accesses from Madley.

Madley site is compliant with European Directive 89/336/EEC and statutory instrument 1992/2372 number 5.  This proves compliance to EMC commercial standards for both conducted and radiated emissions.

GoonhillyGoonhilly

Goonhilly Downs is approximately 11km (7 miles) from the Lizard and 40km (25 miles) from Lands End, the most Southerly and Westerly parts of the UK. The site occupies an area of 64 hectares (160 acres) with a perimeter of 3.5km (2.2 miles). Goonhilly Downs is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Its natural heath contains 17 of some of the rarest plants to be found in the UK.

The earth station opened in 1962 to participate in the TELSTAR experiment. Since then, the station has grown considerably. The Control Tower was originally used to observe and control "Antenna 1", as it tracked low orbiting satellites across the sky. Nowadays, the control tower is used as a viewing gallery for visitors. Control and monitoring of all the antennas are via a central point, known as the Operational Control Area or OCA.

Several high capacity sub-sea cables also terminate at Goonhilly.

There are currently 45 satellite accesses from Goonhilly.

BT Colombo CSC (Wholesale)

BT Colombo CSC is a 24 hour/7 day technical customer service centre plus maintenance and installation co-ordination group. There are three customer hub's located near the main office and the team has managed nearly 2500 remote terminals spread over ten different customers through-out Europe, Africa and the Middle-East.

The group's talents and abilities are specialised around network communications thanks to a broad skill base of engineers from many different backgrounds. The team is split into two different work areas: one provides the technical service management and fault maintenance 24 hours a day and the other is a clerical team which co-ordinates new installations/orders, validates invoices from suppliers and bills the customers when required.

The group currently manages many different networks but is not limited to managing satellite only networks: the team has capabilities for providing service management on Cisco networks and has access to BT's Kilostreams and Megastreams fault management tools.

Professional and organised Spares management of the ongoing maintenance and new provision is key to ensuring that the group exceeds agreed service targets. BT Satcomms has a dedicated logistics manager who co-ordinates equipment for the daily service operation. This role encompasses not only equipment movement but also storage and purchasing via co-ordination through strategic procurement.

In-order to provide maintenance and installation work on the remote sites the Colombo team manages nearly thirty different contracts which agents and suppliers around the globe. The excellent relations between the group and suppliers ensure that there is a quick turn around for request for quotes and new work.
